SIU System President Randy Dunn issued this statement following the Governor’s Veto of the FY 16 budget

SIU System President Randy Dunn issued this statement following the Governor’s Veto of the FY 16 budget which includes funding for the university:

Leading up to passage of a state budget last month, SIU focused on telling our story and sharing the vital resources we bring to our region and share with the entire state. As lawmakers work together to remake this spending plan, we will continue that effort and will work with everyone in Springfield to ensure the SIU System remains a priority.

While we stand ready to be partners in resolving the state’s fiscal issues, it cannot be done on the back of SIU, which like other state universities, is already on the cusp of making devastating decisions impacting our students, our staffs and the communities and regions we serve.

Like everyone, we will take a wait-and-see approach in the coming days.

Amendment HA#1 to HB 4147

The Appropriations – House Higher Education Committee adopted an amendment (HA#1 to HB 4147) which includes the SIU System budget for FY 16. It contains a 6.5% reduction in spending over the FY15 adjusted budget. This equates to an approximate $17 million reduction from last year’s budget. The bill now moves to the House floor for debate.
